5 PCS Tips for a Smooth Military Move

If you are in the military and making a permanent change of station (PCS) to Fort Riley, Kansas, here are five tips to help make your transition smoother:

1. Start planning early.
PCS moves can be stressful, but starting to plan early can help make the process smoother. Research the area, housing options, schools, and other amenities to help you get a better idea of what to expect. The Army Community Service (ACS) and Relocation Readiness Program (RRP) at Fort Riley offer a range of services and resources to help you with your move, including pre-deployment briefings, spouse employment assistance, and financial counseling.

2. Consider your housing options.
Fort Riley offers both on-base and off-base housing options for military families. If you are interested in on-base housing, contact the Housing Services Office (HSO) to get started. If you prefer to live off-base, there are a number of options in the surrounding communities. Keep in mind that housing can be competitive in some areas, so it's important to start your search early.
